Four new meet records were established on the opening day of the 11th National Junior Federation Cup Athletics Championships at Balewadi in Pune on Tuesday. The new meet records came in boys 10,000m walk, boys high jump, boys long jump and boys long jump competitions.

The proceedings began on a flying note as Kuldeep Singh of Haryana walked away with the 10,000 metres walk by clocking 43:37:66 seconds. Delhi's Neeraj (43:39:99) and Maharashtra's Kapil Kumar (43:46:83), who claimed silver and bronze medals respectively, also bettered the previous meet mark of 43:54:4 held by Gurmeet Singh of Punjab since 2004.

Shanti Kumari of Punjab covered the 25-lap (10,000m) walk with a time of 53:55:68. Punjab got
their second gold through shot putter Navjeet Kaur, who tossed the 4 kg iron ball to 11.94m to win the event.

Maharashtra hurdler Aneesh Abhay Joshi accelerated against a strong head-wind to clock an incredible 14.05 seconds for the gold in 110m hurdles. He obliterated his state-mate Siddhanth Thingalaya's meet record of 14.20 seconds set during the previous edition of the Junior Fed Cup at Visakhapatnam two years ago.
