Four youngsters hurt as car rams into roundabout

Driving under the influence of liquor, a youngster was injured along with his three friends, including a girl, after he rammed his car into the Sectors 16-23 roundabout here on Thursday night.

The injured have been identified as Navdeep, Ravi, Ankush and Aananya. At about 12.30 am, with Navdeep driving the Maruti Swift car bearing a Punjab registration number the four were coming from Sector 23. While turning towards Sector 17, the car rammed into the Sectors 16-13 roundabout. Its engine, right wheel and steering wheel were damaged and windscreen broken. The boys were going to drop Aananya at Sector 42.

Navdeep, Ravi and Ankush hail from Abohar and are studying in Chandigarh. Sources in the police said the youngsters in their 20s had visited the Buzz lounge in Sector 17 to attend a party.

Sector 17 police station SHO Dilsher said Navdeep was booked under Sections 337 (endangering life) and 427 (damaging public property) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and under Section 185 (drunken driving) of the Motor Vehicle Act and Section 79 (rash driving). The case was registered after Aananya recorded her statement.

The police were informed by a passer-by, who rushed the youngsters to the Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16.
