The police booked four young men, three of whom were reportedly drunk, for allegedly assaulting two cops at the Sector 18-19 traffic lights early on Monday night.

The youths were returning home after a late night party and the incident occurred when their car stalled after hitting a road divider. A passerby informed the PCR and the cops arrived at the scene. The youths asked them to call a recovery van to tow their vehicle and began pushing them around when they refused. They were later taken to a hospital for a medical examination that confirmed they were drunk.

Those drunk have been identified as Amritpreet Singh and his two brothers, Amanpreet Singh and Harjinder Singh, all residents of Sector 20. The trio was accompanied by a friend, identified as Preetjot, a resident of SAS Nagar, who, the police said, was sober.

The police officer investigating the case, sub-inspector Sukhchain Singh, said the youths started arguing with the cops and later manhandled them when they were told that their vehicle would be towed to a nearby police station.

All four were produced in a local court and were later released on bail.
