Those unhappy with their LPG service provider can now make a switch. Under an initiative by the central government, residents of Chandigarh are now eligible for inter-company LPG portability scheme. Union minister for petroleum and natural gas Veerappa Moily is to formally launch the scheme on October 5.
As of now, an LPG consumer is attached to a distributor and cannot change the distributor even if he is unhappy with the service of the specific distributor or the oil marketing company itself.
Under the new scheme, a consumer can now opt for the distributor of his choice within a cluster in the vicinity and across oil companies. The consumer will also be able to see service ratings of all distributors. The scheme will cover 30 cities for now.
How it would work
A consumer can log on to the website of its current LPG company, and will get the option for portability on the screen. Clicking the option will give a list of providers and their ratings. The consumer can then make his choice and fill in his/her details, and that's it.
