The police claimed to have busted gang involved in committing thefts in weddings across the city with arrest of four.
The police said, “Four members of a Madhya Pardesh-based gang were arrested on Tuesday, while two gang members were still at large.”
The accused have been identified as 49-year-old Parvat, 42-year-old Savita Bai and her two juvenile sons, all residents of Madhya Pardesh.
The police claimed that they were involved in the cases of theft that took place during a marriage ceremony held at Kisan Bhawan on January 25, and the theft committed at Hotel Gaur, Sector 43.
Station house officer (SHO), Sector 36 police station, Ramdayal Singh, said, “During preliminary investigation, they confessed that on January 25, they had stolen a purse - containing two gold bangles, one ring, twelve silver rings, Shagun envelopes, `6,000 cash and a Samsung mobile phone - that belonged to Vandna Chopra, a resident of Phase 2, SAS Nagar, when she was busy in marriage ceremony in Kisan Bhawan, Sector 35.
“Similarly, the gang had also confessed that they had stolen `80,000 cash and a gold necklace from basement of Hotel Gour in Sector 43 in another ceremony,” Singh said.
He said the police had taken Savita Bai on production warrant from Burail jail on February 7, as she was in jail in another theft case.
He said, “The police then traced Parvat and recovered articles from him. A team has also been dispatched to Madhya Pardesh to nab other gang members.”
