Police on Monday claimed to have busted a gang of thieves targeting ATMs with the arrest of three miscreants from the Mallah turn in Pinjore on Sunday night.
The gang had lifted an ATM from Baddi in February, their latest attempts to break open or lift ATMs in the Pinjore main market and in Beed Ghaggar, in April and February, respectively had failed.
One of those arrested is diploma holder in mechanical engineering and bused the internet to learn how to target an ATM.
Around 11:30 pm on Sunday night, Manjit Kumar,22, a resident of Bairaagi Mohalla in Pinjore and native of Bihar, Mohammed Nizam, 21, a resident of Saini Mohalla in Pinjore, and native of Uttar Pradesh, and Hargyan Singh, 40, resident of a Bitna road, and native of Uttar Pradesh, were apprehended while riding in an auto, on a tip.
A country-made pistol, a rod rope, muffler and caps were recovered from the three accused. An oxygen cylinder, LPG cylinder and gas cutter were also recovered.
“They were going to execute an ATM t heft in Kalka a nd Pinjore area when we arrested them,” said Pinjore SHO, inspector Lalit Kumar.
