Police on Saturday said they had busted a gang of vehicle lifters by arresting three people and recovering 12 vehicles from them. The gang, police added, was active in various parts of Punjab, Haryana and Delhi.
A police official said Ranjit Singh, resident of Anchal Nagar, Delhi, Harpreet Singh, a resident of Patiala, and Balwinder Singh, a resident of Faridkot, were caught after members of another gang, brought on production warrant here from Delhi's Tihar Jail, gave in and revealed their names.
Police said the after interrogation of the gangsters from Tihar Jail, they also managed to recover six vehicles including two Verna cars, a tipper, Mahindra Bolero, Indica and Qualis which were stolen from Ghaziabad, Ambala, Khanna, Mohali, Delhi and Panchkula.
After the arrest on the other three vehicle lifters later, police recovered six cars including an Innova, Verna and Maruti Zen. These cars had been stolen from Mohali, Chandigarh, Ambala and Chandigarh.
"The gang has been active from a long time. The possibility of further recoveries cannot be ruled out," a senior police official said.
