Gang selling fake gold busted

With the arrest of six persons, including two women, the SAS Nagar police claim to have busted a gang that allegedly duped people by selling them fake gold coins, bricks and jewellery.

The arrested are 50-year-old Nathali, alias Nathi and her 21-year-old daughter-in-law Asha, 52-year-old Yamuna, 35-year-old Lalu, 30-year-old Arjun and 35-year-old Kishore. At present, all were based in Delhi.

"The accused were arrested by the CIA staff of the SAS Nagar police on a tip-off. They have recovered fake gold coins as well as jewellery from the possession of the accused. Raids are on to nab other members of the gang too," said SAS Nagar SSP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar.

A case under Sections 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust), 467 (forgery of valuable security, will), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 454 (house trespass) and 380 (theft) of the IPC has been registered in the Phase 1 police station.

According to the police, the gang members hailed from Rajasthan area and were vagabonds.

The gang has been operational in the area since long and had duped a number of people by selling fake gold coins and jewellery.

Members of the gang used to trap gullible residents, saying that they have found ancient gold coins and jewellery during digging in Rajasthan. While striking a deal, the accused used to say that they were selling the coins for want of money. The police are now looking for other members of the gang.

The gang operates in small groups. Besides duping people, the gang is also involved in committing thefts at houses.
