It has emerged that parents of the 17-year-old girl who was allegedly gangraped on Thursday, used to sell her to pimps for up to Rs 60,000 a week.
The police arrested her parents from Jalandhar on Saturday. They would be produced before court on Sunday.
The victim's mother had divorced her father and remarried. She pushed her daughter into prostitution for money in collusion with her second husband.
The victim is a Class 8 pass out and has five siblings.
In her complaint to the police, she said her parents had been selling her to different pimps for Rs 60,000 a week. She also identified three pimps - Rahul alias Mickey of Zirakpur, Vikas alias Sachin of Sector 21, Panchkula, and Rahul alias Ganja of Chandigarh.
On March 27, victim's parents brought her from Jalandhar to Ambala, where Rahul, a Zirakpur resident, met them. As per the complaint, he gave `20,000 to the girl's parents and told them he would pay the rest later, following which, he brought the victim to Panchkula in his car.
Rahul's friend Deepu also accompanied him. They took the victim to hotel Sushant in Sector 3, Panchkula, where another girl known to Rahul was present in a room.
The victim told the police that Rahul went outside and called her after 10 minutes claiming that he would come soon to take her along. He came after half an hour to take her to customers. Despite resisting, she was forced into a taxi and they went to Zirakpur, accompanied by Deepu. Deepu dropped the 17-year-old in a flat, where, according to the victim, three boys and two girls were already present. The victim alleged that, out of the three boys, two forced her to drink alcohol, and raped her. When she started shouting, the boys dropped her back to the hotel.
The victim reported the matter to the police on Friday, after which a case under section 372 (for selling minor for prostitution), section 373 (for buying minor for prostitution), section 376 D (for gangrape), and section 328 (for giving alcohol to commit rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act was registered against her parents, three pimps and two rapists.
Deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Ashwin Shenvi said the parents had been arrested, while and the other five are absconding. "We will arrest them soon," he added.
