Panjab University (PU) is set to organise the sixth three-day PU Rose Festival from February 6 to 8. This year's theme for the event is Clean India Mission.
Through the event, the PU will create awareness among the public, particularly in schools, colleges and university students, to keep their surroundings clean.
The Alaankar Theatre Group, constituting of former students of the Indian theatre department, will hold various street plays on the theme, Safai ki Ladai, to sensitise people.
A university official said, "The festival has received a huge response, and there is a big demand of entry forms for various competitions. More than 1,800 forms have been sold already."
"Prof RC Paul Rose Garden and Prof GP Sharma Herbal Garden are the main venues of the festival. The horticulture division work staff members are making elaborate arrangements for making this three-day event a success. Several sculpture models have been prepared to attract people. As many as 24 new varieties of roses brought from Pune have been added this year,"he said.
About 154 rose varieties with 275 rose beds comprising 3,490 rose plants will be showcased at the Prof RC Rose Garden. The festival will be inaugurated by vice-chancellor Arun Kumar Grover on February 6.
The students of Guru Teg Bahadur Public School, Sector 15, Chandigarh, Ankur School, Sector 14, PU, Sant Waryam Singh Public School, Ratwara Sahib, and Guru Gobind Singh Vidya Mandir, Ratwara Sahib, will perform on the inauguration function.
In the evening, the rock band, Pratayaksh, and the department of Indian theatre students will give their performances.
