Anticipating the personnel appearance of controversial godman Rampal in district courts here on Monday in connection with multiple criminal charges of the 2006 clash with Arya Samaj activists, thousands of his supporters laid a siege to chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda's hometown for nearly three hours.

However, Rampal's supporters, who started assembling in the town since Sunday morning to create pressure on the state government, turned away around 11am after government decided to make carrying out the hearing through video conferencing in a Hisar court.

Rampal who had his ashram at Karontha village of the district invited fury of Arya Samaj followers over his controversial remarks over Hindu deities and proponents of Hindu religion. In 2006, Arya Samaj followers and Rampal's supporters were involved in an ugly fight after the former demanded that he be uprooted from the village.

In a clash, Rampal, with several others, was booked under multiple criminal charges and the case is going on in the court of additional district and sessions judge Sushil K Gupta.

The police had laid barricades outside the court to stop any miscreants to enter the court.

Deputy commissioner Amit Agrawal said anticipating appearance of their mentor Rampal in the court, several of his supporters had gathered on Monday morning, which led to traffic chaos for some time but they managed the situation.
