Anyone who visits Punjab is sure to be captivated by its hospitality, culture and lifestyle. Even Bollywood stars from Mumbai are left mesmerised.
On Thursday evening it was the turn of actor Varun Dhawan, son of noted film director David Dhawan, to share some of his experiences during his maiden visit to the city to inaugurate a cinema theatre. Speaking about his connection with the city, he said: “Ludhiana stands for something special for me as well for my entire family. Exactly 20 years ago my dad completed his graduation in this city. When I told him I’d be in town for a day he turned nostalgic and recalled his college days with me. I even took some pictures of the city along with me to impress him”.
During his month-long stay in Chandigarh a few months ago during the shooting for his upcoming film, Humty Sharma Ki Dulhania, Varun got an opportunity to experience the rich culture of Punjab. “As the film was extensively shot in the city and nearby villages my team and I got the chance to experience the famous Punjabiyat. No doubt, Punjabis’ hearts are bigger than their chests and are more like an open book”, says Varun, who did underline the fact that coming here made him understand why his father keeps extolling the virtues of Punjab and its people.
When asked if he had also seen any Punjabi movies, he immediately said he had recently watched Gippy Grewal’s Jatt James Bond and Carry on Jatta and mentioned he ardently listened to Punjabi music. “My upcoming film will also have a few Punjabi songs”, he added.
