Government funding doesn't mean government control: PU V-C

Academic administrators of Panjab University (PU) affiliated colleges on Friday discussed the important aspects of Rashtriya Uchhatar Shikha Abhiyan (RUSA) at the Academic Staff College in PU, on Friday.

As many as 45 participants from various institutions participated in the academic administrators meet, which was organised by the UGC Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC), PU.

Speaking on the occasion, vice-chancellor Prof Arun Grover said that academic administration is a difficult and challenging task. He quoted Dr Homi Bhaba and Dr SS Bhatnagar to substantiate that government funding should not mean government control for academic institutions.

He rued that the rules and guidelines imposed by those who do not have firsthand knowledge of college administration is creating a problem for academic administrators.

Chairperson, Centre for Public Policy and Governance, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai Prof B Venkatesh Kumar deliberated on the objectives, salient features, guiding principles and paradigm shifts in RUSA.

During the discussion session, participants raised queries about RUSA and sought clarifications.

Director, UGC HRDC Prof Karamjeet Singh apprised the participants about important aspects of RUSA and autonomous.
