Punjab and Haryana governor and UT administrator Kaptan Singh Solanki on Wednesday honoured National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets from Punjab and Chandigarh who recently participated in the Republic Day Parade, at Punjab Raj Bhawan here on Wednesday.
He gave Rs 11,000 each to 47 cadets from Punjab and eight from Chandigarh from his discretionary fund.
Speaking on the occasion, Solanki said the aim of the NCC is to groom the youth into disciplined, responsible and patriotic citizens.
Appreciating the NCC directorate, Chandigarh, for securing the first position in the country after 38 years, the governor said he was pleased to learn that of a contingent of 166 cadets who participated in the Republic Day camp, 98 were from Punjab and eight from Chandigarh. He lauded the cadets from Punjab for winning the maximum medals.
NCC additional director general Maj Gen GS Chima said that during the Republic Day camp there were a number of inter-directorate competitions and opportunities to showcase the region’s culture and heritage.
