Health minister Surjit Kumar Jayani on Monday said private practice by government doctors won't be tolerated at any cost and anyone found indulging in it would face action.

Jayani said this after taking charge of the department. He said civil surgeons and SMOs would also be held responsible if a doctor was found indulging in private practice in their jurisdiction.

Jayani said the state government was committed to providing better health services to all. He called upon officials and doctors to ensure proper health services to the poor, especially in rural areas. He called upon them to work united to improve health services in the state.

He said he would start visiting all hospitals in the state after 15 days. Jayani said there should be no compromise on the quality of medicine being supplied at the health department drug stores.

Speaking on the occasion, chief parliamentary secretary Navjot Kaur Sidhu called upon doctors to work in unison to provide better health services to the needy and poor.
