A 30-year-old self employed software engineer went missing under mysterious circumstances on Friday, just two days before his marriage was to be solemnised in Chandigarh on Sunday.
Naveen Kumar was to get married on May 12 and had left home on Friday evening to distribute wedding cards.
When Naveen did not return, family members started looking for him. Naveen was wearing a blue check shirt and grey trouser. His phone too was switched off.
After the family failed to locate Naveen, they finally approached the police on May 11. The Punjab police found Navneen's motorcycle near Ropar canal, who then informed the Chandigarh police. The wedding cards were also recovered from the motorcycle.
DSP (South) Surjit Malik said that the police scanned Naveen's call details, but were yet to get clues of his whereabouts.
The family told the police that Naveen had his own software company. In their complaint, the family alleged that Naveen had dismissed four of his employees, who had threatened him of dire consequences.
Alleging inaction on part of the police, Sunil Kumar, a family member said that the police were taking the case lightly and were not making sincere efforts to trace Naveen.
Unhappy with the attitude of the police, the family as well as the residents of the locality staged a protest outside the police station on Sunday.
His parents had arranged the marriage after getting his consent. A case has been registered at Sector 34 police station. According to source, the possibility of murder has not been ruled out.
