Ambala's police commissioner OP Singh said Khalsa had been taken to a hospital after his health started worsening owing to fasting for a long period. "He has been shifted to the civil hospital," Singh said.

In Ambala, Khalsa's son, Jujhar Singh told reporters that they requested the administration to shift Khalsa immediately to a hospital "since his condition was not good". "He has been hospitalised on our request," he said.

Khalsa has been seeking the release of seven Sikh prisoners including those convicted for the assassination of former Punjab chief minister Beant Singh in 1995 and one in the 1993 bomb blast in New Delhi.
