Speaking at the state-level Independence Day function after unfurling the National Flag at War Heroes' Memorial Stadium on Friday, the governor said a befitting tribute to the martyrs and freedom fighters would be a strong and vibrant India.
The governor claimed that the national freedom movement was an epoch-making event of history, which was epitomised by Mahatma Gandhi's non-cooperation and non-violent methods. Netaji Subhas Chander Bose, Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, Rajguru, Udham Singh, Chandra Shekher Azad and numerous other revolutionists also bravely fought against the British rulers, he said.
He added that Haryana, though geographically a small state has made phenomenal progress in all walks of life and has also preserved its rich cultural heritage.
The governor also complimented players who have brought laurels to the state in the Commonwealth Games (CWG). On the occasion, 47 war widows, 65 freedom fighters and 20 civilians were also honoured.

Later Solanki hosted 'At Home' at Circuit House, where chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, several ministers, MLAs, senior civil and police officers and people from cross section of society were present.
