Hamirpur district gets its fifth district police chief during the 17-month-old rule of the Congress party in the state. It was Madhusudan Sharma who was SP Hamirpur when the Congress party came to power in December 2012. However, with the change in the government, there was also change of senior officers and Jagat Ram was posted as new SP in place of Madhusudan Sharma who was shifted to IRB, Jangel Beri.
However, once again BM Sharma was posted as the new SP of Hamirpur and Jagat Ram was shifted from Hamirpur. Sharma could not last long and had to go to Chandigarh to take charge of a central government assignment there and his place was taken over by Veena Bharti in October 2013.
But with the shock defeat of the Congress party in the state and Hamirpur in particular, there was again change of guard in the police department and Veena Bharti was once again shifted to IRB, Bangarh in Una and Ajay Bodh, a trusted man of the chief minister, VB Singh was posted in her place. Bodh is presently SP, Kinnaur.
Repeated transfers of the district police chief from here has made the people feel that all is not well with the department and that is why, such transfers are taking place.
With Ajay Bodh to take charge of the district all eyes are now set on him to see how he functions and perform his duties to the best of expectations of the rulers of the time as well as the people of the district.
It's worth mentioning here that Ajay Bodh had served as in-charge chief minister security when Virbhadra Singh was in power in 1993 and earlier. He was known as a highly trusted person of the chief minister and that is why he remained on lesser important posts when the BJP was in power in the state during its two regimes, i.e. 1998-2003 and 2008-12.
And perhaps why, the chief minister has now shown trust in Ajay Bodh to manage confidence of the people of the district in the state government-led by the Congress party.
