Hand over Hond Chillar probe to CBI: Venod Sharma

chandigarh Updated: Jul 25, 2014 21:32 IST

Former MLA from Ambala city, Venod Sharma, on Friday demanded scrapping of the Hond Chillar commission constituted by the Haryana government and hand over the investigation to the CBI so that the aggrieved Sikh families could get justice in time.

Sharma, who recently quit the Congress and formed his own Jan Chetna Party, in a letter to the chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, said that though 32 sikhs were burnt alive at Hond Chillar in Rewari district on November 2, 1984, the Sikh families were still looking for justice.

Sharma, who was considered to be Hooda's confidante till recently, in the letter further alleged that the local police which was initially given the probe did not act in spite of all the evidence against the culprits and later closed the case.

Raising doubts at seriousness of the state government in taking the case to conclusion, Sharma said that three years back the government made a commission to inquire into this incident which was to submit its report in six months, but three years down the line no conclusion had been arrived till date.

Pointing fingers at the working of commission, Sharma said that justice was being delayed purposely to help the culprits. Sharma demanded to set up a special investigation team for Hond Chillar tragedy or hand over the investigation to the CBI immediately so that truth came out before the public and culprits were punished.
