A residents’ welfare body of Panchkula has demanded that booths of the Haryana Urban Development Authority that are meant for public services should be handed-over to the state social welfare department.
The demand by Panchkula Welfare Association (PWA) has come on grounds that some of these booths — known as multi-purpose public utility (PUS) booths — are being misused.
PWA president Swadesh Nayyar said that these booths are meant for allotment to resident welfare associations (RWAs) for providing facilities to residents in each sector. “Though booths have been allotted to many RWAs, some are with other organisations,” Nayyar said alleging that some of these booths were being misused for profitable ventures.
He claimed that these booths had been given on rent by some of the allottees. “It is high time that these booths are handed over to the social welfare department or the local administration or HUDA manages them itself,” he said.
