Frustrated with the alleged harassment at the hands of Class-12 students of Motilal Nehru School of Sports at Rai in Sonepat district, 40 hostellers studying in Class 9 left the premises on Thursday night.

Their seniors had reportedly asked to Class-9 students to meet them on Thursday night.

On being informed by the school authorities, a police team led by the Sonepat subdivisional magistrate (SDM) started a search operation in the wee hours on Friday. Later, students were found sitting under a tree near Bahalgarh village, around 10km from the school. The students have returned to the campus on the assurance that their grouse will be addressed.

Class-9 students had reported that some of the students of Class 12 misbehaved with them. As the school authorities remained indifferent to their grouse, students decided to leave the campus.

The district administration has asked school principal-cum-director VK Verma to look into the matter and settle the issue at the earliest.

Talking to Hindustan Times, Verma said: "We have suspended three Class-12 students for an indefinite period of time."
