Harbhajan Singh to lead Punjab in Ranji

Off spinner Harbhajan Singh will lead the Punjab in their Ranji Trophy opening match against Haryana to be played at Dhruv Pandove Stadium, Patiala, from December 7 to 10. Mandeep Singh has been appointed as vice captain of the 14-member squad which also includes Yuvraj Singh.

Patiala batsman Himanshu Chawla is the only debutant, while experienced pacer Manpreet Singh Gony has been left out as he is still recuperating from injury.

Bhupinder Singh Sr will be the coach of the team while Sushil Kapoor has been appointed as manager.

Harminder Singh Pannu has been named fielding coach and Sandeep Kumar Kharwar will be the trainer.

Ravi Raghuvanshi will accompany the team as physio.

Punjab will be looking forward to putting in another noteworthy performance in the premier domestic competition after reaching the semifinals last year. In the semifinals last year Punjab were defeated by eventual champions Karnataka on the basis of first innings lead.

The other members of the squad are: Manan Vohra, Jeevanjot Singh, Mandeep Singh (vice captain), Yuvraj Singh, Gurkirat Singh Mann, Taruwar Kohli, Amitoze Singh, Gitansh Khera (WK), Sandeep Sharma, Siddharth Kaul, Rajwinder Singh Golu, Sarabjit Singh, Baltej Singh and Himanshu Chawla.
