Nishan Singh, Bibi Jagir Kaur's former gunman presently lodged in Patiala central jail, in the Harpreet Kaur abduction and forcible abortion case was granted bail on Friday by the Punjab and Haryana high court.

However, the bench headed by justice RK Garg adjourned the bail petitions of other two co-accused, Paramjeet Singh Raipur and Dalwinder Kaur Dhesi, to July 6.

A special CBI court Patiala had convicted Bibi Jagir Kaur, Nishan Singh, Dalwinder Kaur Dhesi and Paramjit Singh Raipur and awarded them five years' imprisonment on March 30. However, the CBI judge acquitted the four of charges of murder.

All the convicts, except Jagir Kaur who is in Kapurthala jail, are lodged in Patiala jail.
Harpreet, daughter of Bholath MLA Bibi Jagir Kaur, was cremated without conducting post-mortem after her death under mysterious circumstances on April 20, 2000. Bibi Jagir Kaur had claimed that Harpreet died of food poisoning.

Later, a case was registered on the statement of Kamaljit Singh of Begowal village that he had married Harpreet secretly and that she was pregnant with their child, which was not acceptable to Bibi Jagir Kaur. This ultimately resulted in her abduction and death, he claimed.
