The Haryana transport department has challaned over 771 vehicles for offences related to speed governors, the installation of which has now been made mandatory in all goods and passenger vehicles.
Stating this here on Friday, a spokesperson for the department said no new transport vehicles would be registered in the state unless a speed governor of the prescribed standard AIS 018 was installed in it.
A notification had also been issued by the Transport department for installation of speed governors and checking vehicles for tampering with the same, he added.
He said in case of already registered vehicles, the certificate of fitness would not be renewed unless the device would be installed and added that separate type of approval would be required to be obtained by the device manufacturers for each variant they make.
The manufacturer would also have to ensure supply of quality product, after sale service, supply of spare parts and repairs or maintenance services, he said and added that a warranty for a minimum period of one year would be provided by the manufacturer.
The enforcement agencies would take strict action against people who do not have installed the device or those who tamper with it or remove it after installation.
