Haryana Congress today alleged that due to former Chief Minister O P Chautala's "political game in collaboration" with Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, the construction of SYL canal did not take place and the state failed to get its "justified" share of water.
Congress always maintained a clear stand on the issues of water sharing from rivers Ravi and Beas and the Sutlej Yamuna Link canal, party spokesman Ved Parkash Vidrohi said.
He said Central governments under the leadership of Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi had tried to sort out the issues and help Haryana get its rightful share from Punjab.
"Every time Indira or Rajiv used to take any kind of legal action to solve this problem, Chautala family in association with Badal used to instigate the general public of Haryana and Punjab against the government and all the efforts on part of the Congress government would come to a notch," he said in a statement.
Vidrohi accused Chautala of playing a "political game in collaboration" with Badal and alleged, "Chautala family is solely responsible for the delay in construction of SYL canal and for Haryana not being able to receive its rightful share of water from Punjab."
