With a view to create awareness about our rich classical music heritage among youngsters, sensitize them and promote the art at the grass root level, the Haryana Cultural Affairs Department has teamed up with the nationally acclaimed Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture among the Youth (SPIC-Macay). As an initiative, the department and Panchkula chapter of Spic-Macay has organised a series of five live performances and demonstrations by Kolkata-based sitar maestro Supratik Sengupta and young Tabla exponent Hargeet Singh in the government schools of Panchkula.
Credited with several performances in concerts in France, Germany, China and other European countries Supratik Sengupta, is an artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan while Hargeet is a winner of the Spic Macay national completion.
At their first live performance at the Government Senior Secondary School, Sector-15 Panchkula, Sengupta , in his inimitable style interacted with students to apprise them of the fundamental features of music including sur, lya tal and lyakari. Two such programmes will be held on Wednesday at GSSS, Sector 19 and Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 20 as well as at Government Senior School, Sector 17.
