This perhaps best explains the state of affairs in Haryana education department: The principal of a government high school was on Friday caught cheating during an examination of Kurukshetra University.

Pawan Gupta, the principal of Mullana Government High School, was caught by a university flying squad while he was appearing for the MA (education) paper at SD College here. The year of his masters in arts (MA) course could not be confirmed.

The flying squad also reportedly recovered slips used by Gupta in the exam.
A source said that despite Gupta tendering several apologies, a case of "unfair means" has been registered against him and he was later turned out of the examination hall.

Ambala district education officer Anil Sharma confirmed the incident. "Yes, even I was shocked when I came to know of the incident," he said.

Though Gupta has been caught cheating, the education department will only plan to take action against him once the university finds him guilty. "Yes, he was caught. But he has not been proven guilty. We'll plan action once it is proven that he was cheating," Sharma said.
