The Haryana government has taken back the Police Medal for Meritorious Service from former Director General of Haryana Police S.P.S. Rathore, who was convicted in the Ruchika molestation case.

The Union Home Ministry had issued directions to DGP R.S. Dalal three weeks ago to withdraw the medal from Rathore.

“The medal has been cancelled and forfeited,” a police spokesman said here on Friday.

He said the state sovernment had received a written communication from the Home Ministry, forwarding a President’s secretariat notification regarding cancellation and forfeiture of the medal, which was awarded to him in 1985.

Rathore was convicted for molesting 14-year-old tennis player Ruchika, who later committed suicide.
