President Pranab Mukherjee on Friday gave Haryana governor the additional charge of Punjab, while the Rajasthan governor has been given additional charge of Himachal Pradesh till further orders.
The President has asked Kaptan Singh Solanki, Haryana governor, to discharge the functions of Punjab governor, in addition to his own duties, and also as administrator of the union territory of Chandigarh in place of Shivraj V Patil, who completes his tenure on January 21, a Rashtrapati Bhavan statement said. Kalyan Singh, Rajasthan governor, will discharge the functions of Himachal governor, in addition to his own duties. Himachal governor Urmila Singh will complete her tenure on January 24.
The Union home ministry is likely to fill the vacancies in due course with regular appointments.
