Highlight Story

Six persons, including Haryana health minister Rao Narender Singh, were injured in an accident outside Lake Club in Chandigarh Monday.

Singh's car rammed into a CRPF canter as it was coming out from the Sukhna Lake parking. The impact of the collision was such that the bonnet of the Toyata car in which the minister was travelling was completely damaged. The car driver and Singh (52) were immediately rushed to Sector 16 General Hospital for treatment.

Sources in the police said that the accident occurred as the canter tried to evade a scooterist coming from the opposite direction and applied brakes in the middle of the road. Caught unawares, the driver of the minister's car failed to stop in time and banged into the canter.
Besides the CRPF canter driver and an officer, the scooterist and his pillion rider were also injured and rushed to the hospital.

Hospital sources said the injuries sustained by the minister are minor. A routine check-up, including a CT scan, has been performed on him.

The canter had brought food for the jawans deployed on the road as both Punjab and Haryana governors' official residences are close to the accident spot.

A case was yet to be registered in connection with the mishap at the time of filing of report.

Police said that they would take further action after the minister's driver makes a statement.
