Haryana's health minister Rao Narender Singh had a narrow escape after the Toyota Camry he was travelling in collided into a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) truck, opposite the Sukhna Lake Club in Chandigarh on Monday in Sector 1.

In all nine persons including 52-year-old, Rao Narender Singh, were injured in the accident. The official car of the minister bumped into the truck of the paramilitary forces. A scooter also rammed into them.

The minister was immediately rushed to the hospital in his official escort. While three of the injured were discharged after first aid, Narender Singh and three others travelling along with him in the Camry were admitted to PGIMER. Health minister has been injured with a fractured right arm and has been kept under observation.

The others accompanying Narender Singh at the time of the accident have been identified as minister's personal assistant Satish Sharma, personal security officer Bahadur Singh and driver Kaptain Singh.

The CRPF driver Deepak Kumar Yadav was admitted to Sector 16 General Hospital with injuries. Meanwhile the CRPF constables Tara Chand and Bachhan Prasad who had got minor injuries were discharged after medication.

The accident took place at 12.30 pm. The Camry ferrying Narender Singh and others was going towards Haryana Secretariat coming from the Haryana Raj Bhawan turn opposite the lake. Meanwhile the CRPF truck was rolling out of the parking lot opposite the Lake Club after delivering lunch to the security personnel deployed in the area.

Hari Om, the police in charge at the lake said, "The truck had almost negotiated the turn but had to apply sudden brake when a scooterist rushed in front of the vehicle. In the process the truck virtually blocked the road. The Camry driver Kaptain Singh tried to apply the brakes but it was too late and the car collided with the truck."

The intensity of the impact can be gauged from the fact that Narender Singh banged against the front seat. A visit to the spot revealed that the front wind shield of the car and truck was smashed into pieces. The glass laid scattered on the road and blood stains could be seen on the front and rear seats of the car.

The scooterist, Pawan of Sector 45, was also injured in the accident and was admitted to Sector 16 general hospital. The pillion rider Ashish was discharged after first aid.

Haryana chief minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Monday wished for early recovery of Rao Narender Singh.
