The CBI special court, Haryana, on Friday granted regular bail to Haryana MLA Zile Ram Sharma in the abetment to suicide case of ex-sarpanch of Kambopura village (Karnal), Karam Singh. Another accused MLA, OP Jain, was granted bail by the Punjab and Haryana high court recently. The third accused in the case, Jain's personal assistant Rajinder Sharma is still in jail.

The grounds of granting bail are not known as the detailed order is yet to come out. During the arguments, the CBI had opposed the bail saying the MLA could influence the witnesses. On the other hand, Sharma's counsel told the court that he had already passed 7-8 months in jail and that co-accused Jain had already been granted bail by the high court.

The CBI charge-sheet says Karam Singh was fed up with Jain and Sharma as they were not returning `12.5 lakh bribe money they had allegedly taken from him on the pretext of providing jobs to three people.

The court had, on January 4, framed charges under Section 306 (for abetment of suicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Sharma, Jain and the latter's personal assistant Rajinder Sharma in the suicide case of Karam Singh.

Jain is an Independent MLA, while Zile Ram is a Congress legislator. When the allegations surfaced, Jain was transport minister and Zile Ram chief parliamentary secretary (CPS) and both had to resign from their respective posts.
