With a view to implement the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence (POCSO) Act,2012 more effectively, the Haryana government has decided to execute the instructions notified by Government of India under the Act with the coordinated efforts of its Departments of Women and Child Development, Health and Police.

Stating this, an official spokesman said that emergency medical care would be rendered in such a manner as to protect the privacy of the child, and in the presence of parent or guardian or any other person in whom the child has trust and confidence. No medical practitioner, hospital or other medical facility centre, who is rendering emergency medical care to a child, demand any legal or magisterial requisition or other documentation as pre-requisite to rendering such care.

He said that registered medical practitioner would attend to a child for treatment for cuts, bruises and other injuries including genital injuries. Emergency medical care should be provided for treatment for exposure to Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) including prophylaxis for
identified STDs.

Emergency medical care would also include treatment for exposure to Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) including prophylaxis for HIV after necessary consultation with infectious disease experts.
