If you have a complaint against a government doctor or your nearest hospital doesn’t supply medicines, registering a complaint will just be a call away.
From the second week of June, the state health department will start a dedicated helpline for various complaints as well as treatment- and diseaserelated queries, which will be addressed by expert doctors.
According to officials of Punjab Health Systems Corporation, the state government will launch the helpline number 104, which will address various queries – from those related to treatment to complaints against the health department officials.
“We are ready with everything. The contract has already been given. We are testing the software, which will be launched by the second week of June,” said Husan Lal, managing director, Punjab Health Systems Corporation.
Each complaint, he said, would be addressed in a timebound manner.
According to health department sources, the calls at the helpline number will be addressed 24x7.
Besides the grievance redressal system, the centre will provide medical counselling to the common man.
Initially, the calls will be attended by the paramedical staff and, if required, the information will be obtained from the experts, and if need be, people will also be able to talk to experts.
Besides, the new system will focus on mother and child care, drug de-addiction counselling and HIV/Aids.
Under this, the health department will keep a track of pregnant women and their health conditions.
Through this service, they will inform expectant mothers about the food and medicines they require.
It will also inform them about the time they have to visit the doctor. For drug deaddiction, a clinical psychologist will always be available at the centre.
The 104 service will be integrated with the existing 108 (ambulance service) and 181 (for women in distress). Similar helplines are being run by other state governments.
