The Punjab and Haryana high court has issued a contempt of court notice to DS Grewal, principal secretary, food and civil supplies department, Punjab, for violation of undertaking given to the court for paying enhanced salaries to members of district consumer forums.

The court headed by justice Rajesh Bindal issued notice on a petition filed by advocate HC Arora on Friday.

Arora informed the court that earlier he had filed a public interest litigation seeking enhancement of honorarium being paid to the members of the state was well as district consumer commissions.

He informed that court that then the state government on March 26 last year had submitted that instead of fixed honorarium of Rs 18,000 per month to the members, they would have the option to get honorarium after calculating last drawn salary of their earlier government job minus pension being drawn by them. He said that after this statement, the public interest litigation was disposed of.

But the secretary, food and civil supplies department, Punjab, issued another order on November 22, 2012, that members of consumer forums shall get only fixed honorarium of Rs 18,000 per month.

The case will now come up for hearing on July 31.
