The local administration has sealed the bank accounts of Bassi Mubarikpur Truck Operators Union, following the directions of Punjab and Haryana high court. The decision was taken due to non-disbursement of deducted tax (TDS) worth lakhs of rupees to operators from the past four years.
On directions of the court, the administration has also fixed June 15 to hold election of said truck union. In their civil writ petition with HC, operator Amit Bawa, Baldev Rurkie, Karamjit, Shyam, Sukhdip, Sukhjinder and Gurmeet Haibetpur had demanded immediate disbursement of TDS, being deducted from the tax payer operators.
They had demanded to ensure refund of TDS amount, received from income tax department. They had also demanded to bring an elected body for transparency as the elections have not taken place to the truck union since 2004. Lastly, a high level enquiry with regard to the embezzling of truck union's money and whosoever found guilty must be booked.
The court in its orders dated May 30 had issued directions to the SAS Nagar deputy commissioner to ensure and come up with aforesaid arrangements, for which the next hearing has been fixed for July 4.
