The Punjab and Haryana high court on Friday directed the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to take a decision on the 33 Punjab Police Service (PPS) officers recommended for nomination to the Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre by the state government in 2010, 11 and 12, within four weeks.
The directions came during the hearing of a petition filed by PPS officer, superintendent of police Ajay Maluja.
PPS officers HS Bhullar and Iqbal Singh had also moved their applications in the case for vacation of the status quo orders of the high court.
Earlier, the high court had issued directions to put status quo on the list of candidates recommended by the state government to the UPSC in 2011 and 2012, which was vacated by the court on Friday.
However, there was no status quo on the list of names sent in 2010. But till date the UPSC has not taken any decision on any of the lists because of the litigation in the high court.
The case would now come up for hearing on October 18.
