The Punjab and Haryana high court has sent a written communication to all district and sessions judges in Haryana, following a request of the state government to ensure expeditious disposal of the trials relating to heinous crimes against women.

An official spokesman said on Thursday that the chief justice of the high court had also asked them to send progress report of such cases by the 10th of every month.

He said the state government had written to the court for consideration of appropriate effective directions for fast tracking of all cases of heinous crimes against women that were under trial in various courts.

The state government had also requested that if the high court found it appropriate, it could monitor the cases with an objective to reduce delay.

He said the government had sent a written communication to all deputy commissioners, superintendents of police and district attorneys to constitute district-level committees to monitor each case.

He said the committees would meet at least once in 15 days and would expedite each case and ensure that there was no laxity in pursuit of the case. The committee would also review other aspects of such cases, including the legal aid to the victim, compensation and medical aid.
