The Punjab and Haryana high court issued a notice to Chandigarh administration on the issue of election of co-operative societies.
The petitioner, RD Anand, had alleged that despite submissions on March 2 during the hearing of a petition seeking elections in co-operative societies, the administration had not withdrawn the notification extending the tenure of committees of cooperative societies in the city.
The UT administration, on March 2, had informed the court that the notification extending the term of cooperative societies’ managing committees to five years had been withdrawn.
The administration also submitted that the rules for the same would be put in place before the next date of hearing which is on April 8.
UT administration’s response then had come on a petition wherein it was submitted that it was yet to frame the rules for the implementation of the provisions of 97th constitutional amendment and the managing committees, which were elected for one year, could not be allowed to extend their term to five years as per the 97th constitutional amendment.
The HC has sought UT administration’s response by April 21.
