The Punjab and Haryana high court on Thursday issued a notice of motion to the Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmit Ram Rahim Singh of Sirsa seeking explanation on the allegations made against him by his follower for sexually exploiting his wife.

The directions came from the bench headed by Justice Rameshwar Singh Malik on the resumed hearing of a petition filed by a resident of Panchkula, Vishwas Gupta alleging that the Dera head threatened to kill the petitioner when he exposed Ram Rahim of sexually harassing his wife.

The Dera head has been directed to file the reply before April 30. Gupta, who had earlier sought the security of his family was provided the same by the state government on the directions of the high court.

The bench was informed that petitioner's father, Mohinder Pal Gupta, who is son of Rulia Ram Gupta former MLA from Gharaunda constituency, got associated with Dera Sacha Sauda in 1970 and later the petitioner also associated himself with Dera.

It was alleged that petitioner's father was lured by Dera head to sell his property and agricultural land after which Ram Rahim deposited the proceeds of the sold property with Dera factories which promised to return the amount. But, the petitioner has alleged, that Dera head has refused to return the funds.

After selling their property when the petitioner's family shifted to Dera, Ram Rahim found a girl from Fatehabad to marry Vishwas Gupta and solemnised the marriage on February 14, 1999. It was alleged that Ram Rahim changed the girl's name the very next day.

Later, on December 30, 2009, Dera head declared in the presence of 'sadhus' that he had adopted Gupta and his wife as his son-in-law and daughter. The petitioner alleged that from then on his wife has not been allowed by Dera head to stay with him "even for a day and Ram Rahim has kept her with him to have illicit sexual intercourse with her".

The petitioner alleged that he was assaulted and threatened by the Dera head to not open his mouth when he saw his wife with the baba in a compromising situation. Thereafter, the petitioner and his family decided to shift to Panchkula on July 16 last year. The petitioner further alleged Ram Rahim of enticing his wife as she is still with the baba.
