The Punjab and Haryana high court on Saturday issued a notice to the Punjab government on a petition by trained graduate teachers (TGT) appointed under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) who want pay parity with TGTs employed directly under the education department.
The teachers recruited on contract basis from 2009 onwards have submitted that under the SSA norms there could not be any discrimination between those employed for SSA and those working on similar posts in the department. The petitioners have alleged that they are being paid only a consolidated salary equal to the starting basic pay, plus dearness allowance admissible on such pay, and were not being granted increments every year, as were being given to other TGTs. Further, medical reimbursement, earned leave, maternity and child care leave, and contributory provident fund (CPF), were facilities not being extended to them.
The bench of justice RN Raina issued notice for May 25 seeking a reply from the government and the director of the state SSA authority.
