The Punjab and Haryana high court on Friday directed the Punjab Police that no arrest of Bollywood director Sanjay Leela Bhansali and cast of his movie 'Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela', Deepika Padukone, Ranbir Singh and Priyanka Chopra should be made till the next date of hearing.
The directions came from the court headed by justice M Jeyapaul while hearing the petition seeking quashing of the first-information report (FIR) registered against Bollywood director and four actors on November 11 last year at Hoshiarpur for hurting religious sentiments of Hindus. The film was released on November 15 last year.
The complainant had alleged that contents of the film were highly objectionable and offended Hindus' religious sentiments, and had nothing to do with Lord Ram as per its title.
The court also issued notice of motion to the Punjab government for filing its reply before the next date of hearing on March 28.
Appearing for the petitioners, advocate Rohit Sud informed the court that a similar petition seeking quashing of the FIR registered last year against the movie cast in Jalandhar is already pending with the high court and in that also the court had granted interim stay of arrest orders.
