Salman Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Ajay Devgan, Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Preity Zinta, Anushka Sharma and Sonakshi Sinha, among many other A-list Bollywood actors, have danced to the moves of 26-year-old Mudassar Khan.
When this Bollywood choreographer, who is currently judging Dance India Dance Season 4, visits Chandigarh for Zee TV’s DID Dance it Out movement, the first thing you want to know about him is his journey to Bollywood. "In 2009, there was a promotional event for Prabhu Deva’s Wanted in Mumbai, where dance groups had to compete against each other. The group that won the competition got a chance to perform in front of Salman Khan. Fortunately, my group Sharp Shooters, won and got the chance to perform in front of Salman sir. When he saw the performance, he asked who choreographed the number. I was lucky enough to meet him, which then led to me choreographing dance numbers for various films," says Mudassar.
So far, Mudassar has choreographed songs for films such as Dabangg, Dabangg 2, Bodyguard, Ready, Ishkq in Paris, Boss and upcoming movie Jai Ho. His godfather, Salman, is forever supportive of his choices. "Salman sir is happy when I get to do other projects. When I told him about DID, he was happy for me. Though stars such as Ajay Devgan and Abhishek Bachachan, who even played a prank on me once, are nice, my all-time favourite remains Salman. There’s a different kind of freedom when I choreograph for him," says he.
Mudassar, who is a fan of the hip-hop genre, says, “The first thing I think on hearing a song is the signature steps that would instantly strike a chord with viewers. That’s how the signature steps for Dhinka Chika and Pandey Ji came about.”
