The Haryana health department would launch a statewide campaign for diarrhoea control with the slogan "Jodi Number One" with an aim to make people aware of the importance of oral rehydration solution (ORS) packets and zinc tablets.

Health minister Rao Narender Singh said on Saturday that ASHA workers would reach out to rural households having children under the age of 5 for distribution of ORS and zinc tablets free of cost under this campaign. Similarly, in urban areas, it would be distributed through urban health centres or dispensaries, he added.

He said during the campaign, the department would generate awareness through information, education and communication activities and mass media regarding sanitation and hand washing practices, continuation of breast feeding during diarrhoea and importance of increased liquid intake to prevent dehydration.

The health minister added that the department has ensured that each and every government hospital and health institute should have proper arrangements for diarrhoea patient, packets of ORS and zinc tablets.
