Punjab health minister Surjeet Kumar Jyani has instructed senior department officials to conduct surprise checks in all sub-divisional hospitals, community health centres, primary health centres and sub-centres and subsidiary health centres (rural dispensaries) managed by the department of rural development and panchayat through zila parishads, in the second round after the completion of inspection in the district hospitals.

In a press release issued on Thursday, Jyani said instructions had already been issued to all the doctors serving in the rural areas to perform their duty with dedication and punctuality. He said the health services in rural areas should be properly ensured to the poor. He said he would have direct interaction with the people in villages during his visits.

He said doctors not performing their duty properly and not maintaining their hospitals/dispensaries would face strict action.
