The UT administration has imposed section 144 in the city anticipating that the followers of Saint Ram Pal, who is scheduled to appear in person in the Punjab and Haryana high court on November 5, will throng the city in his support.

The restriction under section 144 of the CrPC has been imposed on November 5. The order will come into force with effect from zero hour on November 5.

The orders were passed by additional district magistrate TPS Phoolka keeping in view that large number of followers might disturb the law and order in the city and as such, there is every apprehension of breach of peace and disturbance of public tranquillity, besides danger to human life and safety, by the display of weapons.

The above order will not apply to police or para-military or military persons or any other government servant on official duty; the processions or meetings for which prior permission in writing of the district magistrate/sub divisional magistrate, Chandigarh, is obtained; and the customary and ritualistic procession in connection with weddings and funerals.
