Heavy rain causes damages in state

Heavy to moderate rain in the state has caused damage in the day. On Tuesday, the state received rainfall 7% above the normal mark. Highest rainfall was recorded in Kullu, 27 millimeter, followed by Kangra, 26 mm.

The rural areas of the state have been receiving incessant rain in the last 48 hours, which has caused loss of properties at several places. Several roads have been blocked partially and trees have been uprooted. In state capital Shimla, where 30 mm of rainfall was received on Tuesday, nearly 10 trees were uprooted across the town. About five trees have been uprooted and fallen on a government rest house near the governor house.

Heavy rain in rural areas has washed away the farmland causing damage worth lakhs. Due to muck dumping in Nallah, nearly 4 bigha of farm land has been washed in Chhalalda village of Koti near Shimla. Jagat Singh, one of the land owner said that on Monday night due to downpour all the muck illegally dumped in Nallah, flooded his farmland.

A house was also damaged in Narkanda, due to landslide, while several irrigation and public health schemes were damaged. IPH department has ordered immediate restoration of schemes, while the public works department has also pressed in machinery to keep the roads through in the state.

The weather department has cautioned for heavy rainfall in Shimla, Sirmaur and Solan district in the next 24 hours. Shimla meteorological centre director Manmohan Singh said that more rain was predicted across the state in the next 24 to 72 hours.

Shimla town has received 85 millimeter of rainfall in last 48 hours causing inconvenience to the residents.
