Held with 20gm heroin, taxi driver has long list of customers

Police crime branch nabbed a taxi driver and recovered 20gm of heroin from his possession when he was travelling from Jalandhar to Chandigarh.

The accused, Amit Sethi, 37, a resident of Mansa Devi Complex (MDC), Panchkula, spilled the beans about the drug chain and told the police that he was running the drug trade with two other persons who have long list of customers and delivered to the customers in Panchkula.

The accused further revealed that some of the drug peddlers had rented flat in MDC but were staying at hotels in Sector 5, MDC, and Manimajra to avoid getting entangled into police net.

“They called the customers nearby their hotel to deliver the consignments,” he added.

He said he had purchased the contraband from one Lovely of Jalandhar who delivered him the consignment near BSF Chowk, Jalandhar. He was arrested when he was coming back to Chandigarh in his Indigo car (HR03 R 3564) when he was nabbed by sleuths of crime branch near Khuda Lahora.

He also revealed that he had bought 20g heroin by paying `60,000. The police official said Sethi was also booked by Mandi (Himachal) police when the police recovered charas from his possession.

The police said that he was also booked in a brawl case by the Panchkula police.

A senior police official said during interrogation, they learnt that Sethi was running a business in MDC and the IT park area and the police were trying to procure more detail to crack the drug chain.

The official added they were trying to trace his accomplice in Panchkula and Chandigarh.

Talking to HT, crime branch inspector Gurmukh Singh said they could not divulge details of the case as it would affect the investigation but said they have got details about the drug trade being run in Panchkula area and would share details with Panchkula police.
