Dera Sacha Sauda

Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh on Thursday moved the Punjab and Haryana high court, challenging a lower court order wherein fresh handwriting samples of his ex-follower and now a complainant of rape allegations against him was denied by the court.

His counsel, Vishal Narwana, on Thursday told the court that the Central Forensic Science Laboratory here, where the handwriting samples of the complainant were sent after the HC intervention, had asked to supply fresh samples. But when the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) special court, Haryana, was approached with the application for the same, it was dismissed.

Ram Rahim has stated that the writing samples were crucial as the complainant wrote the letter on her last day at the dera. And the letter did not contain any rape allegations. In the letter, he has been extolled as “Pitaji”, he has stated. The HC has issued a notice to the CBI on the petition for May 20.

The trial of rape allegations against the dera head is going on in the CBI special court at Panchkula.

In 2002, anonymous letters were circulated about sexual exploitation of sadhvis at the Dera Sacha Sauda, following which the CBI registered the case on the orders of the high court. There are two complainants in the case.
